Juan's Community Project

Clean The River

The organization that sponsored  the event gave us an excellent experiences, they were very organized and helpful giving the instruction and telling the volunteers what to do. What really surprised me was that they have gloves and water ready for volunteers. Also There was a woman taking attendance and making sure that everyone was registered correctly.
The main purpose the even was clean up the river and recollect all the garbage. Especially in the earth day even a small help count.
To be honest, I choose that project because it was the first time in my life attending to an environmental event. I always wanted to help the earth somehow but I never had the opportunity.

During the event everyone was with a plastic bag collecting garbage or only bottle, cans clean plastic bags to recycle. I start walking up the river and collecting garbage: Plastic, glass bottles, metals, etc. There was a whole chinese family collecting, which is a good example for the little children and the people around. Even though that the event was for a class project, I really felt good helping the people with the bags and having fun in the river with 78 degrees out.
Becoming a member of a motorcycle club was the path that I decided to follow to open a new chapter in my life. Since I became part of this motorcycle family, I was introduced to the need of helping the needy. Being part of this group showed me different ways to help the community but never thought about to help the environment, and this is the most important reason why this project became so important to me. For some reason I felt moved by the fact that I was helping the needy, who at some point of it life had the opportunity to to either success or have a different outcome of it life. However, what move me the most was the opportunity that this project gave me helping the environment that does not have the option to help itself. As a matter of fact, what makes the real difference is that by helping the environment we are leaving a footprint that would be the  gift to our children, grandchildren and family.
